JEDDAH - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered the Minister of Religious
Affairs (Minister) Lukman Hakim Syaifuddin to handle and provide optimal
support for the pilgrims from Indonesia who are victims of crane that fell in
the complex Haram, Mecca.
"I've asked the Commander of the Haj (Minister of Religious Affairs-red) and the consulate in Jeddah to give assistance as optimally as possible (for the victims-ed)," said Jokowi a press conference at the Palace of King Faisal, Jeddah, Friday night or Saturday ( 9/12/2015) early morning Jakarta time.
Jokowi said the state visit to Saudi Arabia at the invitation of King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz.
"At the time I get information from misfortune storm winds and rain in Makkah, including in the Haram and pemodokan Hajj at 17.30 pm," said the Head of State.
Expansion of the Haram
Jokowi said, the storm has resulted in a crane for the expansion of the Grand Mosque broke and fell on pilgrims who are doing tawaf.
"There is a victim of us, citizens of Indonesia, and in this opportunity to convey my condolences to the families of the victims, including from Indonesia. Hopefully, given the strength and fortitude in accepting this tragedy," he said.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Cabinet (Cabinet Secretary) Pramono Agung accompanying the visit of President Jokowi in Saudi Arabia said, actually the president wants to see the victim from Indonesia who were treated in Mecca, but it is difficult to state a security-related issues.
"When heard, the President actually wanted to directly look casualties (Hospital) An-Nur on various consideration issues of security of the government of Saudi Arabia, can not visit and the need to coordinate the long road to the Haram jammed, the President asked Amirul Haj and Secretary to monitor the victim's mother and the state will provide compensation to the victims, "said Pramono.
Cabinet Secretary added that the Minister of Religious Affairs was in Makkah for sure how many victims came from the citizen so there is no confusion.
